The history and evolution of the Port Authority

The National Archaeological Museum of Reggio Calabria is hosting an exhibition by the Maritime Directorate of Reggio Calabria: an exhibition dedicated to the history of the Port Authorities – Coast Guard, on the occasion of the 160th anniversary of their establishment.

Until Sunday, September 14, 2025, the free exhibition “Anchored in the past, sailing towards the future” will be open to visitors in Piazza Paolo Orsi. It traces the history and evolution of the Corps, guardian of values, skills, and professionalism that have accompanied Italian civil and maritime life for over a century and a half.

The works

The works, created with the support of artificial intelligence by artist Leonardo Petrucci, reinterpret the salient moments in the history of the Port Authorities according to the style of the various historical periods, offering visitors unique atmospheres and impressions. The exhibition is completed by the oil on canvas painting “Tra le onde ed il coraggio” (Between the waves and courage), which celebrates Reggio Calabria and the Port Authority Corps through evocative symbols of identity.

The Museum and the Maritime Directorate thus offer citizens and visitors an opportunity for reflection and sharing, enhancing a historical heritage that looks confidently to the future.
