“Cyprea: la rete di Afrodite”, a cultural bridge between Italy and Cyprus at the National Archaeological Museum of Reggio Calabria

Is officially open to the public “Cyprea: La rete di Afrodite“, the exhibition that combines contemporary art and archaeology, celebrating the cultural link between Italy and Cyprus through the figure of Aphrodite.

The exhibition will be open until 27 April 2025 at Piazza Paolo Orsi del MArRC, after a great public success at the Museum of the Roman Forum at the Colosseum Archaeological Park, where it was set up from 26 September 2024 to 16 January 2025.

The exhibition project – supported by MIC – Ministry of Culture, the Embassy of Cyprus in Rome, the Sicily Region, the Archaeological Park Naxos/ Taormina, Naxos Law, the Ministry of Culture of Cyprus, The Route of the Phoenicians – European Council, Leucò Art Gallery – has already made a stop in the city symbol of the Mediterranean, including Naxos/ Taormina, Pafos and Nicosia, strengthening the cultural dialogue between the two shores of the mare nostrum.

The exhibition, curated by Giorgio Calcara with the artistic direction of Stefania Pennacchio, presents the works of eight leading artists: Stefania Pennacchio, Nicola Verlato, Rosa Mundi, Gabriels for Italy, and Vassilis Vassiliades, Panikos Tembriotis, Eleni Kindini, Lefteris Tapas for Cyprus. Through an exhibition path that intertwines archaeology and contemporary art, the exhibition explores the concept of kalokagathia, the ethical and aesthetic beauty that has inspired generations and cultures, creating a timeless dialogue between past and present.

At the Archaeological Park of the Colosseum, the exhibition offered a significant opportunity to get to know in depth the myth of Aphrodite, interweaving the iconography of the goddess with the symbolic places of imperial Rome and its thousand-year history.
