The National Archaeological Museum of Reggio Calabria (MArRC) is pleased to present a calendar of extraordinary openings for summer 2024. These initiatives will give visitors the opportunity to explore the rich collections of the museum and participate in special events at extended times, offering a unique cultural experience.

25 June: Open until 23.00

On 25 June, the MArRC will be open until 23.00. During this special day, the cost of the ticket will be ordinary, allowing everyone to take advantage of the exhibitions and museum spaces until late in the evening.

 

FRIDAY 5 JULY – DiVino – Wine between archaeology, traditional practices and modernity

A fascinating journey through the history of wine, exploring the archaeological roots and traditional practices that have shaped modern viticulture.

FRIDAY 12 JULY – Summer notes – Opera concert

A lyrical concert under the stars, performed by the talented students and professors of the Conservatory F. Cilea in Reggio Calabria. The programme includes famous arias and lesser known pieces from the opera repertoire.

FRIDAY 19 JULY – “Representation of the epiphany in Calabria. The golden brattea of the sixth century A.D.”

A conference given by Dr. Giacomo Oliva, who explores the history and meaning of the golden brattea of the 6th century AD, an important archaeological find.

FRIDAY, JULY 26 – “Ιφιγένεια (Ifigenia) by Euripides. The work that exposes the mechanisms of power in the direction of Mihalis Kakoyannis”

A conference with video projection of the opera “Ιφιγένεια” by Euripide, directed by Mihalis Kakoyannis. The rapporteur, Professor Paola Radici Colace, will analyse the themes of power and Greek tragedy.

Within the event “I Tesori del Mediterraneo”, the cultural event “FOOD TELL – Assaggi di Storia”, an initiative in collaboration with the starred chef Nino Rossi. Conference on the combination of food, history and archaeology followed by a small tasting of food and wine.

FRIDAY 9 AUGUST – ULYSSES the art of ESCAPE

A conference-show that explores the themes of the Odyssey and the art of escape, followed by a debate and a round table with literature and theatre experts.

FRIDAY 16 AUGUST – “Magnogreco Universe in the Ionian Calabria”
An evening dedicated to astronomy and the culture of Magna Graecia in Ionian Calabria, with a conference and an astronomical observation led by experts from the Planetarium Pythagoras of Reggio Calabria.

FRIDAY 23 AUGUST – “Persephone: the rapture, loss, mourning, the kingdom of Hades, the seasons”
Conference with video projection. Opening with greetings from Fabrizio Sudano, Director of MArRC, Loreley Rosita Borruto, President CIS Calabria. Professor Paola Radici Colace already Ordinary of Classical Philology at the University of Messina, Honorary President and Scientific Director of CIS.

FRIDAY 30 AUGUST – Summer notes
A final opera concert that closes the series of summer events, with performances by the best talents of the Conservatory F. Cilea of Reggio Calabria, who will perform a selection of symphonies and famous arias.

Cost: 3 euro admission to the museum – free entry until seats are sold out

 

General Information:

The cost of 3 euros includes access to exhibition spaces from 20:00 to 23:00 (for the event on 19 July from 21:00 to 24:00) and activities and events organized in collaboration with the territory.
Access to the terrace allowed for a maximum of 90 participants, without reservation, subject to availability.

 

 

Window on the territory: Active every Friday evening the info point of the Aspromonte National Park with information and tasting of identity products.

White Night at the MArRC: 14 September

On Saturday 14 September, the MArRC organizes an extraordinary evening, the Notte Bianca, with opening hours from 20.00 to 24.00. Also on this occasion, the entrance ticket will have a reduced cost of 3 euros. The White Night will be an unmissable event, enriched by unique activities and shows.
