The Italian Capital of Culture, like the European City of Culture, is an initiative aimed at the development of cities through the enhancement of cultural heritage and the promotion of culture.
It was established in 2014. The title is awarded annually to a city by the Council of Ministers on the proposal of the Minister of Culture.
The winning city, thanks also to the contribution of one million euros made available, will be able to show, for a period of one year, its original characters and the factors that determine its cultural development, understood as engine of growth of the whole community.
Reggio Calabria has been nominated among the 10 finalist cities for the title of Italian Capital of Culture 2027. On 26 February at the Ministry of Culture, the dossier “Heart of the Mediterranean” will be presented to the jury.
“Heart of the Mediterranean” is an ambitious and innovative project that candides Reggio Calabria to Italian Capital of Culture 2027. A kaleidoscope of cultural experiences, connections and concrete actions for sustainable and inclusive development. A lighthouse that illuminates the cultural landscape, enhancing the identity heritage of Reggio Calabria and opening it to dialogue with the world.
The MArRC supports the candidacy of Reggio Calabria as Capital of Culture 2027.
