Rara Avis. Portraits in Bronze from Magna Graecia to the Contemporary
Antonio Affidato's "Rara Avis"
On 31st August at 10:30 a.m. the National Archaeological Museum of Reggio Calabria will inaugurate Rara Avis. Portraits in Bronze from Magna Graecia to the Contemporary, an exhibition by Antonio Affidato, curated by Daniele Castrizio, under the patronage of the Academy of Fine Arts of Reggio Calabria and the Academy of Fine Arts of Catanzaro.
The project centres on the theme of the portrait and presents a series of bronze works through which the artist engages with the legacy of Magna Graecia, reinterpreting it through a contemporary perspective.
The works thus establish a dialogue between classical languages and contemporary sensibilities, connecting Affidato’s artistic research with the historical and cultural heritage preserved by the Museum.
Far from being merely a memory of the past, myth becomes a lens through which to question the present and reflect on the relationship between identity, time and memory.
The exhibition, installed in Piazza Paolo Orsi, will be open to visitors until 18th September.
